Aluminum is the ideal insulating material:

(1) High reflectivity, low emissivity, absorption and re-emission of very little infrared radiation;

(2) High thermal conductivity ensures that heat energy is quickly conducted from potential hot spots in the aluminum heat shield;

(3) It has a high specific heat capacity. This means that after absorbing a certain amount of thermal energy, the temperature rises lower than that of many other materials. 70% of thermal management tasks in automobiles can be handled by aluminum surfaces alone. (4) Excellent corrosion resistance. Environmental factors such as humidity and high temperature greatly promote the corrosion effect of the heat shield. Contaminants such as salt water, liquid asphalt, street dirt and mud must not cause unacceptable corrosion of the heat shield during the service life of the vehicle.

(5) Provide sufficient fracture resistance. Gravel and slight ground contact may cause local deformation of the lower heat shield, and the aluminum structure heat shield is less prone to cracks.

(6) Aluminum plate and aluminum foil are very suitable for meeting various forming and service requirements of heat insulation covers. The heat shield must be as close as possible to the hot part. Space is limited, especially in the engine compartment and lower body area, so thermal shields often have fairly complex shapes to fit snugly into different components.
