There are many types of sealing gaskets, and the applications of gaskets of various materials are also different, and the performance varies greatly. So which material is better? How to choose?
Xiaobian has selected 5 common sealing gaskets for analysis and comparison, and understand the detailed parameters to make a more correct choice!
1. Industrial rubber sheet
Natural rubber is suitable for water, seawater, air, inert gas, alkali, salt aqueous solution and other media, but not resistant to mineral oil and non-polar solvents, long-term use temperature does not exceed 90 °C, low temperature performance is excellent, can be used above -60 °C.
Nitrile rubber is suitable for petroleum products, such as petroleum, lubricating oil, fuel oil, etc., long-term use temperature of 120 °C, such as in hot oil can withstand 150 °C, low temperature is -10~-20 °C. Advantages of nitrile rubber: excellent oil resistance, high wear resistance, good heat resistance, strong adhesion. The disadvantages are poor low temperature resistance, poor ozone resistance, poor insulation performance, and slightly lower elasticity.
Neoprene rubber is suitable for seawater, weak acid, weak alkali, salt solution, excellent oxygen resistance and ozone aging performance, oil resistance is inferior to nitrile rubber and better than other general rubber, long-term use temperature is less than 90 °C, the highest use temperature does not exceed 130 °C, low temperature is -30~-50 °C.
There are many varieties of fluoroelastomers, which have good acid resistance, oxidation resistance, oil resistance and solvent resistance. It can be used in almost all acid media and some oils and solvents, and the long-term use temperature is below 200 °C.
Among the various types of gaskets, the rubber gasket is the softest, has good fitting performance, and can exert a sealing effect under small preload.
2. Asbestos rubber sheet
It is made by pressing asbestos, rubber and filler. It is used as a sealing material for pipeline flanges, high-pressure vessel flanges and various mechanical connection surfaces
Pros:
The price is lower than other gaskets and it is easy to use.
It has medium hardness, acid and alkali resistance.
Cons:
Presence of micropenetration. Therefore, in highly polluting media, even if the pressure and temperature are not high, it cannot be used.
When used in some high-temperature oil media, usually in the late stage of use, due to the carbonization of rubber and filler, the strength is reduced, the material becomes loose, and it will penetrate inside the interface and gasket, and coking and smoke will occur.
Asbestos rubber sheet is easy to bond to the flange sealing surface at high temperature, which brings many troubles to replace the gasket.
